Spotlight: Doreen Blades

Doreen Blades is the Founder/President of US Eco Products Corporation, distributor & supplier of environmentally friendly/Green products. Doreen is especially excited to be able to do her part in cleaning up the environment and reducing costs for those dealing with an oil-based contamination. We’ve asked her questions about her personal journey creating US Eco Products, and with “thinking green” in general.

How did you get started with your business? 

I had started a pet supply company focusing on green, healthy food and pet-safe ice melt.  I found the United States Navy and pharmaceutical companies were purchasing the snow and ice melt. I was aware of set asides for women owned businesses, and how the Federal Government has a goal of 95% to purchase green products. I created US Eco Products Corporation knowing I could better service this niche market.

What was your mission when you started US Eco Products?

Our goal was to offer green, sustainable products and services to the Federal and state governments.  We firmly believe there is always is a green alternative to all non-green products. 

What sparked your interest in eco/green products?

I have always focused on green and recycling from the time I was in college.  I was the chairperson for the Waste Management committee of the town I live in.  It made me proud that we were able to bring curbside recycling without an added cost to the town, and that was over 30 years ago.  We were one of the first towns to offer curbside recycling.

What do you think makes US Eco Products unique?

We know our products and services inside and out.  We have the ability to understand our customer’s needs and can offer the right green solution.  Because not all green products are the same, we feel that we operate more like a consultant than just selling any product.

What has been your biggest challenge as a business owner?

As a woman owned business, it has been a challenge to be taken seriously.  And as a small business, having larger companies and government agencies believe we can get the job done on time and within budget is always a point of discussion. But we enjoy working outside of our “comfort zone”. That’s what’s helped us achieve success.

What do you love most about helping your customers?

I love actively working with my customers to come up with a green, sustainable solution that is within their budget.   It’s enjoyable to look at the whole picture and assess what they are currently using versus a sustainable solution.

Where do you hope to take US Eco Products in the future?

I hope to grow US Eco Products Corporation with more sales resources and more employees.  Adding more and more green products to our offering is also important, it ensures we always have a variety of solutions. We have been in business for 15 years, and continue to grow each year.
